DINING OPTIONS

Posh and Chic (main dining rooms)
A departure from most Carnival dining rooms, these two sophisticated spaces feature striking cloth-wrapped chandeliers and lamps all around the room with neon lights behind (and muted by) the cloth. The walls are patterned like python skin. Marble dividers between sections of tables have metal grillwork of fruit on vines, which is back-lighted in wall showcases. Freedom introduces a new spa menu (try seared supreme of chicken over grilled pineapple with wild mushroom medley and cured watermelon), and George Blanc Signature Selections created by the noted French chef.

Sun King Supper Club
Splendidly done up in lush Louis XIV décor, including a gold leaf statue of the King himself and ornate design touches cribbed from Versailles, the intimate club specializes in dry-aged USDA beef though seafood selections, including lobster, are available as well. Reservations-only; $30 PP.

Freedom Lido
Lady Liberty is nearly everywhere here, even as a large statue illuminated in different colors at night. Counters serve carved meats, pasta, salads, New York deli sandwiches and Asian cuisine, and just upstairs is a seafood café offering fried oysters and other treats, with mezzanine seating.

Viennese Café
Located along the Centuries promenade, the counter offers coffee drinks and sweets for a fee.

Meiji Sushi
Also along the promenade, this counter serves sushi appetizers during cocktail hours, free.

Room Service
Limited selections include sandwiches, salads, and sweets. Free 24-hour delivery.

ENTERTAINMENT AND PUBLIC AREAS

Noise levels vary widely, from the hushed Monticello Library à la Thomas Jefferson to the Studio 70 disco inspired by New York’s infamous Studio 54 with pop art, lots of mirror balls, and cushy couches with blue-glass backs. Find a warm sunset glow in the tropical Habana cigar bar, ultra-glitz in the nine-story Millenium atrium. Choices are plentiful for kicking back or kicking up the heels.

Bars, lounges, and casinos:

  • Babylon Casino: Hanging Gardens of Babylon décor
  • Centuries Bar: Casino bar
  • Players’ Bar: Sports bar
  • Scott’s: Joplin-esque piano bar
  • Swingtime: Jazz bar
  • Bar Nouveau: Wine bar
  • Studio 70: Disco
  • Habana Bar: Cigar bar decorated in pre-Castro Cuba theme
  • Pool bars: Several Lido deck bars near the pools
  • International Lounge: Smaller cabaret lounge
  • Millenium Lobby Bar: Atrium bar

Swimming pools:

  • Timeless Pool: All-ages; central Lido deck
  • Endless Pool: All-ages; aft Lido deck; sliding sky dome
  • Stressless Pool: Waterslide; Panorama deck
  • Splash Pool: Children only; Camp Carnival, Deck 15

Shows:
The three-tiered Victoriana Show Lounge was inspired by 1880s London West End theaters and is lavishly decorated with Queen Victoria’s image as part of the décor. Vegas-style revues and other big productions take place nightly.

Shore Excursions:
Avoid lines at the tour desk by signing up for excursions through the cabin TV. On Mediterranean sailings, passengers may find themselves stopping in Italy’s Livorno (Florence), Venice, Messina, or Naples; Greece’s Athens, Rhodes, or Katakalon; Croatia’s Dubrovnik; Turkey’s Izmir or Istanbul; France’s Cannes; or Spain’s Barcelona. Blue ocean, ancient walled cities, and a wealth of art and culture are the tour attractions here. On Caribbean sailings, water sports, dolphin encounters, and rainforest tours prove very popular. On the Transatlantic journey, stops in Portugal’s wine-rich Madeira region and Spain’s impressive seaport of Malaga alternate with leisurely days at sea.

KID STUFF

Club 02 presents teens ages 15 to 17 with a new high-concept design; it consists of several spaces in one, located right off the ship’s promenade. Kids can lounge on couches, including a U-shaped sofa screened by bubbling water tubes, and enjoy music stations, a dance floor, soft drink bar, media area with magazines, and game area with eight Xbox stations. Camp Carnival for younger kids is located in a 4,200-square-foot play space divided into a movie room, arts-and-crafts center, padded play area for the under-2’s, game room, and children’s library. The video arcade is one of the largest afloat.
