Bacchus Dining Room (main dining room)
Named for the Greek god of wine (and somewhat gaudily decorated in purple hues with grape motifs on the ceiling and walls), the hall accommodates guests in two seatings. In addition to such cruise favorites as chateaubriand, prime rib, and lobster, the menus feature Spa Carnival and low-carb entrees daily, as well as special selections for children and vegetarians.

Horatio’s Restaurant
The sprawling, one-level lido restaurant offers full breakfast and lunch buffets, as well as a casual dinner alternative and a late-night “bistro.” A poolside grill, 24-hour pizzeria, and stations for Asian food, deli sandwiches, and roast meats keep most palates pleased.

Nick & Nora’s
Atop the atrium is tucked Nick & Nora’s gourmet supper club, inspired by the husband-and-wife sleuthing duo from Dashiell Hammett’s The Thin Man. This reservations-only restaurant charges $30 per person for prime meats and seafood, exquisite atmosphere, and extra-attentive service. From the glass-backed elevator a striking black-and-white photo of the 1930s Manhattan skyline pops into view.

Fountainhead Café
Specialty coffee drinks and sweets for a nominal fee.

Room service
24-hour room service has a limited but tasty menu of sandwiches, salads, and desserts.

The Raven library (with internet terminals) probably doesn’t have a copy of Edgar Allen Poe’s poem of the same name, but the dark, heavily-carved wood provides the right ambience. Shops line the Yellow Brick Road, the outdoor promenade winds through enclosed Gatsby’s Garden, and Batman just might be seen in the Gotham Lounge. Age-specific dances allow teens as well as adults to experience Dr. Frankenstein’s Lab.

Bars, lounges, and casinos:

  • Mr. Lucky’s Casino
  • The Joker: Card room
  • Frankie and Johnnie’s: Oldies, dancing
  • Dr. Frankenstein’s Lab: Disco on two levels
  • Maguire’s: Sports bar with TVs
  • Jeeve’s Lounge: Classical music with cocktails
  • Sam’s Piano Bar: Sing-along fun
  • Mad Hatter’s Ball: Small theater for late-night comedy
  • Lobby Bar: At base of Metropolis atrium
  • Gotham Lounge: Smoky jazz club
  • Odyssey Bar: Between the main pools on Lido deck
  • Orpheus Bar: At Orpheus pool, aft-Lido deck

Swimming pools:

  • Sirens Pool: All-ages; center Lido deck
  • Ulysses Pool: All-ages; center Lido deck
  • Orpheus Pool: Aft Lido deck; adult-only whirlpool
  • Kids Pool: Sports deck; waterslide entrance

The Phantom Lounge, the main theatrical venue, leverages icons from both the Phantom of the Opera stage production and the completely unrelated comic strip superhero. High-end sound and light equipment and a topnotch orchestra make every show a command performance. Each night, two identical productions of stand-up comedy or Vegas-style revues are staged by the Miracle Players.

Shore Excursions:

Signing up for excursions via the cabin interactive TV is the best way to avoid the long lines at the tour desk. Southern Caribbean sailings stop at St. Maarten, where the dual nationalities of the French/Dutch island can be experienced; St. Kitts and St. Lucia, both in the West Indies and famous for mountainous scenery, hot springs, and palm-fringed bays—enjoy a 4-wheel-drive excursion or rain forest aerial tram ride here. Western Caribbean sailings stop in Colon, Panama, rich in traditional Indian arts; Limon, Costa Rica, where canopy ziplines, kayaking, and biking are popular; and Belize, a premier dive spot where cave tubing and other jungle adventures also abound. Eastern Caribbean sailings stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where the old fort beckons; St. Thomas, USVI, haven for shopping and water sports; and Tortola, BVI, where dolphin encounters and beach lazing are the best bets. Grand Turk, a lesser-known stop on the Fort Lauderdale sailings, entices with excellent diving, snorkeling, and secluded beaches.

Camp Carnival’s rather small Pinocchio’s Club keeps younger children entertained with art projects, computers, video game consoles, movies, and a splash pool, among more active pursuits. A large video arcade, Wizard’s, appeals to tweens and up. Late-night babysitting is available for an hourly fee.

Activities are available for the following age groups:

  • Toddlers, Ages 2-5 (with parents, if necessary)
  • Juniors, Ages 6-8
